The light was yellow. A big truck was in my rear view mirror. I had to decide fast. Slam on the brakes or go on through? I went on through. The light turned red. Was the camera watching? Will I receive a ticket in the mail? If I had stopped in time, would the truck have done the same?
We all face yellow lights in life. Sometimes we make the right decision. Sometimes we don’t. The consequences aren’t always a reliable indicator of a good decision. We may never know what the outcome of the “un-chosen” option would be. So, we pray, we listen, we do our best, and we keep driving, forgetting what is behind, and pressing on toward the goal.
Proverbs talks about setting our gaze before us. Lord, keep me focusing forward in the light as You are in the light.
Amen!
One can not live at the yellow light level. The indecision of go or no-go is a tension which we all must resolve. Oh Lord! Give us a green or a red but the yellow’s we can live without. What does it mean anyway, slow down or speed up? That probably has to do with how much power you have under the hood or how bad your brakes are. jfs
Wow, you may not believe it, but the same traffic light turned yellow on me again this morning. This time I slammed on my brakes and wound up stopped PAST the crosswalk. Cars behind me slammed on brakes as well and I’m sure were not happy. A big truck in the lane beside me honked his horn and went on through (while the light turned red.) Seems like no matter what I do, I can’t win with this light. Now I’m wondering if I’ll get TWO tickets. One for going on through on red, one for stopping in the intersection. 🙁 Both times I was trying to do what was right, and both times, it seemed like the wrong decision. My only prayer is that grace will prevail. 🙂
