The Ice Cream Man

The ice cream man came by my house on Saturday.  If you are as old as I am, or a lucky youngster who happens to live in one of the few neighborhoods he still visits, you have seen him before.  He drives a beat-up white van or panel truck with colorful pictures of frozen treats all over it.  […]

How Many Beats ’till We’re There?

My heart beats at 68 beats per minute.  That’s on the low end of average for a person who is sitting around doing  nothing.  When I get up and go for a walk, my heart works a little harder, speeding up to 72.  When I wake in the morning, it’s already thumping along at 66

The Guy Who Works at Wendy’s

There is a guy who works at Wendy’s.  I have seen him there for the 20 years I have lived here, but he told me yesterday that he has actually been working there for 28 years.   He cleans the tables, throws out the trash, checks on the bathrooms and does a few other odd jobs.

Meet Me in the Bathroom

The other day I was in the bathroom when I whispered a prayer.  The thought hit me that it was a strange place to pray.  I know the bible teaches us that God is everywhere and we should pray always, but is it really appropriate to talk to the holy, righteous, almighty God, the creator

Humbly Submit to Peace

I hope this post doesn’t sound too “preachy.”  It is something that has been on my heart and although I mentioned it in my post about the Haiti trip, I find myself feeling the need to unload my heart just a little bit more.   So, here it is.  Read or ignore, but at least I have gotten

Watching a Parade

There was a parade in downtown Denver on Saturday.  It was a celebration of St. Patrick’s Day.  People lined the streets, where they cheered and waved as the parade participants flowed through the crowd. I watched for a while, wondering who these people were who marched so proudly through the onlookers.  Were they famous people?

Haiti Trip – March 2011

Well, this might be my last post before heading to Haiti on a mission trip.  I am going to help with a teen retreat.  As usual, I face the trip with a mixture of excitement, fear and trepidation.  I am anxious.   What if I don’t have enough material?  What if I don’t have the right
