The Antidote

The poison ivy got me.  I put on gloves and went to war, pulling it up by the roots, yanking it up and breaking it off with reckless abandon.  I’ve beaten it.  It no longer lurks in the shrubs, waiting to ambush a hapless victim, but it didn’t go down without a fight.  It’s left […]

I hate suffering.  Especially when it’s near me, and most definitely when it is me.  Unfortunately, many of us are called to do it.  I used to think that the only good suffering was the kind where I was suffering for being a Christian.  Persecutions and such.  Now I think there’s more to it than

Dandelion Prayers

A fluffy ball of dandelion seeds Sam held up the dandelion stem with it’s white fluffy seed ball ready to blow into the wind. “What are the odds this dandelion will get me my wish?” he asked. “That depends on what you wish for,” I responded.  “Of course, even if you DO get what you

The Ice Cream Man

The ice cream man came by my house on Saturday.  If you are as old as I am, or a lucky youngster who happens to live in one of the few neighborhoods he still visits, you have seen him before.  He drives a beat-up white van or panel truck with colorful pictures of frozen treats all over it.

How Many Beats ’till We’re There?

My heart beats at 68 beats per minute.  That’s on the low end of average for a person who is sitting around doing  nothing.  When I get up and go for a walk, my heart works a little harder, speeding up to 72.  When I wake in the morning, it’s already thumping along at 66

The Guy Who Works at Wendy’s

There is a guy who works at Wendy’s.  I have seen him there for the 20 years I have lived here, but he told me yesterday that he has actually been working there for 28 years.   He cleans the tables, throws out the trash, checks on the bathrooms and does a few other odd jobs.

Meet Me in the Bathroom

The other day I was in the bathroom when I whispered a prayer.  The thought hit me that it was a strange place to pray.  I know the bible teaches us that God is everywhere and we should pray always, but is it really appropriate to talk to the holy, righteous, almighty God, the creator

He’s a Dentist

My dentist fixes flat tires.  I know because he fixed mine.  I don’t know if he does it for everybody, but I do know that he did it for me, and I was truly surprised.   I have been thinking about it ever since. Tammy and Sam had a dentist appointment to get their teeth cleaned

Deer, Car, Buzzard or Bones?

Sam and I came across some bones while on our Sunday walk.  A skeleton of sorts.  It was the backbone and rib cage of what I can only guess was a deer.  It was kinda weird to see it laying there by the side of the road so we stood for a while, trying to

Humbly Submit to Peace

I hope this post doesn’t sound too “preachy.”  It is something that has been on my heart and although I mentioned it in my post about the Haiti trip, I find myself feeling the need to unload my heart just a little bit more.   So, here it is.  Read or ignore, but at least I have gotten
