{"id":940,"date":"2011-01-10T15:22:58","date_gmt":"2011-01-10T20:22:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/markspruill.com\/blog\/?p=940"},"modified":"2011-01-10T15:36:43","modified_gmt":"2011-01-10T20:36:43","slug":"what-to-do-with-a-snow-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/markspruill.com\/blog\/?p=940","title":{"rendered":"Living the Snow Day Way"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We woke up this morning to 6 inches of snow.\u00a0 For many people, that&#8217;s not a big deal.\u00a0 For folks in Atlanta GA, it&#8217;s a big deal.\u00a0 We don&#8217;t often see that much snow, and when we do, it causes a major disruption in lifestyle.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_943\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-943\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/markspruill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/SleddingsDone.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-943 \" title=\"SleddingsDone\" src=\"http:\/\/markspruill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/SleddingsDone-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/markspruill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/SleddingsDone-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/markspruill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/SleddingsDone.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-943\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Sam and Annie enjoying the snow<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In Georgia, we&#8217;re really not prepared for snow.\u00a0\u00a0Our fleet of &#8220;snow plows&#8221; consists of a few sad dump trucks with a blade stuck on the front.\u00a0\u00a0 Thus, the roads quickly become an icy mess.\u00a0 Six inches of snow means just about everyone stays home because it&#8217;s just too dangerous and \/ or difficult\u00a0to drive.\u00a0 \u00a0They talk about it on the news for hours on end.\u00a0 They even cancel schools at the prediction of snow.\u00a0 All because it&#8217;s way out of the Southern &#8220;comfort zone&#8221; and we are just not prepared for it.<\/p>\n<p>You really can&#8217;t blame us for not being prepared.\u00a0 Some things are just not worth the trouble.\u00a0 Would it really make sense for Atlanta to buy a fleet of snow plows just so they could be used for\u00a0a few\u00a0days every decade?\u00a0 I think not.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>So what is there to do on a snowy day in Atlanta?\u00a0 We just go with the flow.\u00a0 Write in a blog, sled down the hill, throw a few snow balls with Sam, make a snow angel, and be grateful for a peaceful, quiet, beautiful day at home.\u00a0\u00a0 On second thought, maybe we <em>are<\/em>\u00a0ready to deal with the snow.\u00a0 Perhaps I could use a few more snow days.\u00a0 Or maybe, I just need a bunch more days of living\u00a0the &#8220;snow day&#8221; way.<\/p>\n<p><em>Praise the LORD from the earth, You great sea creatures and all the depths; Fire and hail, snow and clouds; Stormy wind, fulfilling His word; Mountains and all hills; Fruitful trees and all cedars; Beasts and all cattle; Creeping things and flying fowl; Kings of the earth and all peoples; Princes and all judges of the earth; Both young men and maidens; Old men and children.
