{"id":722,"date":"2010-09-16T09:50:39","date_gmt":"2010-09-16T13:50:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/markspruill.com\/blog\/?p=722"},"modified":"2010-09-20T08:34:16","modified_gmt":"2010-09-20T12:34:16","slug":"a-faint-reflection","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/markspruill.com\/blog\/?p=722","title":{"rendered":"A Faint Reflection"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A few nights ago, I went out with my little telescope to look at the stars.\u00a0 The light pollution in Atlanta is so bad that it makes it very difficult to see anything unless it is very bright, but I still found a few things worth seeing.\u00a0 There were some binary stars, a few barely visible galaxies, and three planets.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Venus was visible as the brightest planet.\u00a0 In fact, I think it is about the brightest object in the sky other than the Sun and moon.\u00a0\u00a0 A little bit later, Jupiter rose in the South Eastern sky.\u00a0 It was bright, reflecting the Sun&#8217;s glory from millions of miles away.\u00a0\u00a0 As I peered at it through the telescope, I could even see its moons.\u00a0\u00a0 I decided to try for\u00a0a bigger challenge.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A little up and to the\u00a0right should be Uranus.\u00a0\u00a0 Would it even be possible to spot such a far away planet?\u00a0 I searched.\u00a0 There were dots of light everywhere.\u00a0 But focusing in on one, in the right spot and about the right brightness, I noticed it was different.\u00a0\u00a0 Stars appear as a pinprick of light, but this was a\u00a0miniscule disk of blue-green\u00a0color.\u00a0 I had found it.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>What a wonderful creation.\u00a0 Almost 3,000 times less bright than Jupiter.\u00a0\u00a0Smaller and much farther away, it is a tiny disk of light far out in space.\u00a0 And yet, for those who take the time to look, it is still faithfully reflecting the glory of the Son.<\/p>\n<p><em>And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord&#8217;s glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 &#8211;
