{"id":553,"date":"2010-07-06T19:23:24","date_gmt":"2010-07-06T23:23:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/markspruill.com\/blog\/?p=553"},"modified":"2010-07-15T09:06:39","modified_gmt":"2010-07-15T13:06:39","slug":"the-morning-after","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/markspruill.com\/blog\/?p=553","title":{"rendered":"The Morning After"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I made coffee all over the counter this morning.\u00a0 I didn&#8217;t mean to, but I knew it was going to happen sooner or later.\u00a0 I suppose it just had to happen on the first day back to work after a wonderful vacation.<\/p>\n<p>It started last night when I set up the coffee maker to make coffee for me this morning.\u00a0 I cleaned the pot, filled it with 4 cups of water, then poured it in the coffee maker.\u00a0\u00a0I set the pot on the counter while I cleaned the basket and reloaded with filter and fresh coffee grounds.\u00a0 Then, I turned on the timer and went to bed.<\/p>\n<p>When I\u00a0shuffled to the kitchen this morning the coffee pot was still sitting\u00a0where I left it\u00a0and the\u00a0nice coffee brew was all over the counter.\u00a0\u00a0 As I see it, I only had two choices.\u00a0 a) I\u00a0could wipe it up with a towel and then ring out the towel in my cup, or . . . b) I could pour some sugar and cream on the counter and lick it all up.\u00a0 I chose option &#8220;a&#8221;,\u00a0because I couldn&#8217;t figure out how to stir the counter.\u00a0\u00a0 It was too early to think straight and I hadn&#8217;t had my coffee yet.<\/p>\n<p>I figure there is a moral in this story and it probably has something to do with not getting distracted.\u00a0 Pay attention to the details or you might wake up with a mess.\u00a0 King David got distracted and made a big mess.\u00a0 Then, not unlike me, he finally decided to suck it up and come clean.\u00a0 Or perhaps the lesson is simpler:\u00a0 If you are going to make coffee on the counter, be sure to pour the sugar and cream on first.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I made coffee all over the counter this morning.\u00a0 I didn&#8217;t mean to, but I knew it was going to happen sooner or later.\u00a0 I suppose it just had to happen on the first day back to work after a wonderful vacation.
