{"id":542,"date":"2010-07-01T10:12:54","date_gmt":"2010-07-01T14:12:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/markspruill.com\/blog\/?p=542"},"modified":"2010-07-15T09:09:35","modified_gmt":"2010-07-15T13:09:35","slug":"human-nature","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/markspruill.com\/blog\/?p=542","title":{"rendered":"Human Nature"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>My vacation this year has reminded me how much I like nature.\u00a0 Sometimes I feel like I could never get enough of the mountains and the beach.\u00a0 They are beautiful places that show off the wonder of God&#8217;s creation.<\/p>\n<p>On this vacation, we headed for the beach.\u00a0 We stopped along the way and spent one night at a swampy lake in Georgia.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_545\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-545\" style=\"width: 384px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/markspruill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/GEDC0191.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-545  \" title=\"Sam on the cypress lake\" src=\"http:\/\/markspruill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/GEDC0191.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"384\" height=\"288\" srcset=\"https:\/\/markspruill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/GEDC0191.jpg 640w, https:\/\/markspruill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/GEDC0191-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 384px) 100vw, 384px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-545\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Sam paddles through the cypress trees<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>It was beautiful, but after a little while, the heat and the\u00a0 bugs started bothering us, so we made for the\u00a0air conditioned\u00a0comfort of our nice bug-free camping trailer.\u00a0 The next morning, we pulled up camp and finished our two-day journey to the beach.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>As I write this, we are still at the beach, enjoying the warm ocean and the beautiful wide beaches.\u00a0 Our camping area is under the shade of the natural wooded tree line, just behind the dunes.\u00a0 No condos here.\u00a0 Just nature.\u00a0 I could enjoy staying here for a long time, enjoying the natural beauty of the beach, so long as I don&#8217;t have to put up with ALL the aspects of nature.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_546\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-546\" style=\"width: 686px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/markspruill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/GEDC0212.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-546 \" title=\"Wide Angle Beach\" src=\"http:\/\/markspruill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/GEDC0212.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"686\" height=\"182\" srcset=\"https:\/\/markspruill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/GEDC0212.jpg 1144w, https:\/\/markspruill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/GEDC0212-300x79.jpg 300w, https:\/\/markspruill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/GEDC0212-1024x272.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 686px) 100vw, 686px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-546\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A view of the beach<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>What I realized this trip is that I do enjoy nature, so long as I don&#8217;t have to take it naturally.\u00a0 The hot muggy days at the beach are fine as long as I have a cool air conditioned trailer to retreat to.\u00a0 I can deal with the bugs, if I have plenty of &#8220;Off&#8221; to spray on.\u00a0 The evening thunder storms are kind of nice when you can hear the patter of the rain on the camper roof.\u00a0 But what if I had to take nature raw?<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_547\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-547\" style=\"width: 384px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/markspruill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/GEDC0002.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-547\" title=\"Camper at beach\" src=\"http:\/\/markspruill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/GEDC0002.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"384\" height=\"288\" srcset=\"https:\/\/markspruill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/GEDC0002.jpg 640w, https:\/\/markspruill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/GEDC0002-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 384px) 100vw, 384px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-547\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Our un-natural camper on the natural beach<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Many of us (myself included) SAY we like nature, but what we really mean is we like PARTS of nature.\u00a0 The beach would not be nearly so popular if there were no such thing as air conditioning.\u00a0 A journey to the top of a mountain might not be as enticing if you had to walk up, slashing your way through forest as you went. Our roads, air conditioners, sprays, lotions, and gadgets all make nature much more acceptable . . . and . . . less natural.<\/p>\n<p>Watered down nature is what I really like.\u00a0 Nature that has been tamed.\u00a0 Nature adjusted to fit my needs.\u00a0 It is human nature to do just that.\u00a0 We like things adjusted.\u00a0 Adapted.\u00a0 Revised to our liking.\u00a0 And so, we do.<\/p>\n<p><em>I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel, which is not another; but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ. But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed.\u00a0 As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Galations 6-9<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 2 Timothy 4:3-4<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My vacation this year has reminded me how much I like nature.\u00a0 Sometimes I feel like I could never get enough of the mountains and the beach.\u00a0 They are beautiful places that show off the wonder of God&#8217;s creation.
