{"id":415,"date":"2010-03-01T07:18:20","date_gmt":"2010-03-01T12:18:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/markspruill.com\/blog\/?p=415"},"modified":"2010-03-01T17:32:59","modified_gmt":"2010-03-01T22:32:59","slug":"who-needs-angels","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/markspruill.com\/blog\/?p=415","title":{"rendered":"Who Needs Angels?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>My son brought a dog home.\u00a0 It wasn&#8217;t his dog.\u00a0 He was doing a friend a favor and watching the dog for the week-end.\u00a0 The dog&#8217;s name was &#8220;Angel&#8221;, but she wasn&#8217;t.\u00a0 The dog wasn&#8217;t an angel at all.\u00a0 She used our floor for a bathroom several times and she did her share of whining for sure.\u00a0 The name did not reflect her nature.<\/p>\n<p>Can you imagine what our phone books would look like if people were named based on their nature?\u00a0 What if some great defining moment labeled you for the rest of your life?\u00a0 There have been cultures and times when people were named in such a way.\u00a0 Names had meaning.\u00a0 My kids know about meaningful names.<\/p>\n<p>In a style slightly similar to something Native American, I have assigned some special &#8220;Indian names&#8221; to our family members.\u00a0 Our bathroom is often occupied by &#8220;Long Shower.&#8221;\u00a0 &#8220;Three Alarms&#8221; is difficult to wake.\u00a0 And the perfect name for our dog who will eat anything and everything, &#8220;Walking Stomach.&#8221;\u00a0 No. Our dog would never be named Angel either.\u00a0 Walking Stomach fits her just fine.\u00a0 The name Angel should be reserved for something much better.<\/p>\n<p>Usually when I think of Angels, I think of beings who are messengers of God.\u00a0 Beings who show up and announce that something very important is about to happen.\u00a0 Certainly I have read many scriptures where they filled that role.\u00a0 However I recently read a passage that made me realize just how much of a blessing they can be.<\/p>\n<p>When Jesus faced some of his greatest battles, angels were there, ministering to him.\u00a0 At his birth, they were there.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0In the wilderness after being tempted, they were there.\u00a0 In the garden before the cross, they were there.\u00a0 They were there, ministering to him.\u00a0 Helping.\u00a0 Healing.\u00a0 Caring.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Here is the part that really blesses me:\u00a0 If Jesus needed their care during the rough points in his life,\u00a0might we not expect the same ourselves?\u00a0 God provided his heavenly ministers to be there when Jesus needed them most.\u00a0 And for those of us who call him Lord, I\u00a0believe he\u00a0will do no less.<\/p>\n<p>But to which of the angels has He ever said: &#8220;Sit at My right hand, Till I make Your enemies Your footstool&#8221;?
