The Thai Cuisine restaurant was a great place to eat.\u00a0 I discovered\u00a0it years ago right after it opened.\u00a0\u00a0 They had good food at a good price so I\u00a0went often.\u00a0\u00a0 I told others about it.\u00a0\u00a0 After a few months, the place got busier and it became harder to get a table.\u00a0 They had a thriving lunch-time business, and rightly so.\u00a0 But something must have happened.\u00a0 Yesterday I noticed the restaurant\u00a0was closed.\u00a0 I\u00a0wonder how long it has been that way?\u00a0 \u00a0How long has it been since I was there? 10 years?\u00a0\u00a0Why did I stop going?\u00a0 Perhaps one reason is that I found a better place.<\/p>\n
The better place is a little grill called Pickles.\u00a0\u00a0I meet my wife and kids there for lunch.\u00a0\u00a0My son grew up doing his home-school work\u00a0at the restaurant table, while waiting for me to take my lunch break and meet them.\u00a0 The people know me.\u00a0 They\u00a0know us.\u00a0 When I walk in and sit down by myself,\u00a0the hostess asks if my wife and son will be joining me.\u00a0\u00a0She even seems a little dissapointed\u00a0when they don’t come.\u00a0 She asks about them, and tells me about her kids.\u00a0 How are they doing in school?\u00a0 We\u00a0talk and get to know each other a little better each\u00a0visit.\u00a0 Today I learned that she doesn’t like snow.\u00a0 She had her fill of it when she lived in Connecticut.\u00a0 I also learned that her home country has weather much like Florida.\u00a0 Mildly cool winters in the north, warm all year in the south.\u00a0<\/p>\n
No matter how busy the lunch hour, the hostess always makes time to talk to me.\u00a0 She and her husband own the place, and I am her favorite customer.\u00a0 Me and just about everyone else that walks in the place.\u00a0 At Pickles, you pay for the burger, but friendship comes free.\u00a0 Perhaps that is one reason they have outlasted the Thai restaurant.\u00a0 They know one of the secrets of life:\u00a0 It’s about people.<\/p>\n
