{"id":2522,"date":"2016-08-30T07:18:14","date_gmt":"2016-08-30T11:18:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/markspruill.com\/blog\/?p=2522"},"modified":"2016-08-30T07:33:05","modified_gmt":"2016-08-30T11:33:05","slug":"the-bible-is-boring","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/markspruill.com\/blog\/?p=2522","title":{"rendered":"The Bible is Boring"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you have ever read the Bible through from cover to cover, you will find there are parts that are boring. \u00a0If you disagree with me, you either have not read the whole Bible, or you are dishonest with yourself. \u00a0Parts of it are boring. \u00a0You know it.<\/p>\n<p>The parts in particular that I am thinking of today are the long lists of names. \u00a0A list of &#8220;begats&#8221; going all the way back from Jesus to Adam. \u00a0Are you kidding me? \u00a0What about the lists in Nehemiah of all the people that worked on rebuilding the city. \u00a0Lists of carpentars, stone masons, priests, musicians . . . \u00a0the list goes on and on. \u00a0Maybe somebody at some point wanted to know all this stsuff, but why is it in God&#8217;s Holy Word? \u00a0Why is it so important that we have to read it? \u00a0Why couldn&#8217;t it just be in some ancient filing cabinet at the Bethlehem county court house?<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ll tell you why. \u00a0Because most of us will never be an Abraham, Moses, Peter or Paul. \u00a0Most of us will just be like one of the names on that list. The carpenters and plumbers, computer programers, stay-at-home moms, check-out clerks, bus drivers and cooks. \u00a0We are the people who do our normal jobs every day for the glory of God. \u00a0God wants us to know that we&#8217;re an important part of His story. \u00a0And every one of us is an important name on His list.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If you have ever read the Bible through from cover to cover, you will find there are parts that are boring. \u00a0If you disagree with me, you either have not read the whole Bible, or you are dishonest with yourself. \u00a0Parts of it are boring. \u00a0You know it.
