{"id":2373,"date":"2015-05-08T17:46:59","date_gmt":"2015-05-08T21:46:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/markspruill.com\/blog\/?p=2373"},"modified":"2015-06-02T13:50:07","modified_gmt":"2015-06-02T17:50:07","slug":"bible-updates","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/markspruill.com\/blog\/?p=2373","title":{"rendered":"Bible Updates"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As the grey in my beard takes control of my brain, I am beginning to think like old people. \u00a0You know, that generation with the reputation for abhorring change. \u00a0I&#8217;m beginning to understand the aversion. \u00a0It&#8217;s because they are often on the wrong side of the deal. \u00a0When you are young, change means getting a stronger body, getting smarter, more freedom, new opportunities, newer stuff . . . \u00a0 But when you get old, then the changes start happening in reverse. \u00a0Your body changes for the worse. \u00a0Change means losing muscle and gaining wrinkles. \u00a0Your mind starts taking little holidays without you. The kids whom you taught to drive now demand you give up your license and your keys. The ocean of opportunities that surrounded you as a young person is a drying mud puddle. \u00a0No wonder old people look on change with suspicion. \u00a0It often treats them very badly. \u00a0<span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">I&#8217;m still refusing to admit I&#8217;m old, and I try to embrace change whenever I can but even<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">\u00a0little changes sometimes make ME wince.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2375\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2375\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2375\" src=\"http:\/\/markspruill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Screenshot_2014-09-26-13-22-142-300x124.jpg\" alt=\"A new version of a version?\" width=\"300\" height=\"124\" srcset=\"https:\/\/markspruill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Screenshot_2014-09-26-13-22-142-300x124.jpg 300w, https:\/\/markspruill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Screenshot_2014-09-26-13-22-142-150x62.jpg 150w, https:\/\/markspruill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Screenshot_2014-09-26-13-22-142-1024x424.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/markspruill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Screenshot_2014-09-26-13-22-142.jpg 1079w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2375\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A new version of a version?<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>My Bible keeps getting updated. \u00a0Not the printed one. \u00a0The one on my phone. \u00a0It&#8217;s like every few days the program wants to &#8220;auto-update&#8221; and at least once a month or so, it tells me my downloaded version of the Bible needs to be updated. \u00a0For some reason, that bothers me. \u00a0Am I crazy? \u00a0I mean, why do they keep having to update it? \u00a0Is God sending out revisions somewhere and I&#8217;m missing the news?\u00a0\u00a0With all the changes going on in the world, it would be nice to know there is something that is not changeable, not negotiable, and solidly entrenched in truth. \u00a0A foundation that&#8217;s solid and immovable. \u00a0If not the Bible, then what?<\/p>\n<p>A club has bylaws. \u00a0An organization has a charter. \u00a0A republic has a constitution. \u00a0What does a life have if not The Word of God? Everything else may change, but don&#8217;t change that on me. \u00a0You may pretend its truth changes to fit your lifestyle if it makes you feel better about the way you are living or what you have decided to believe is true. \u00a0You may embrace what culture, the media, and your friends tell you. \u00a0But if you do, you will be clutching something that is constantly moving, constantly shifting, constantly changing. \u00a0That&#8217;s no way to steady a life.<\/p>\n<p>As I see it, there are two basic types of people. \u00a0Those who determine to conform their life to The Word of God, and those who determine to conform the word of God to their life. \u00a0One way helps you stand. \u00a0The other is sure to let you fall.<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;For I am the LORD, I do not change;
