{"id":214,"date":"2009-12-11T14:25:08","date_gmt":"2009-12-11T19:25:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/markspruill.com\/blog\/?p=214"},"modified":"2009-12-11T14:28:26","modified_gmt":"2009-12-11T19:28:26","slug":"dealing-with-hornets","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/markspruill.com\/blog\/?p=214","title":{"rendered":"Dealing with Hornets"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last night it got cold.\u00a0 This morning the hornets are gone, and I didn&#8217;t have to do a thing.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0I guess\u00a0sometimes the easiest battle you ever fight is the one you never fight.<\/p>\n<p>This summer, we noticed a hornets&#8217; nest up in the magnolia tree.\u00a0 It was right in the front yard and I was afraid someone would get stung so I prepared to do battle.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0A can of\u00a0Wasp and Hornet Spray was the weapon of choice.\u00a0\u00a0 I was calculating when I should strike so as to provide minimum danger to me and maximum casualty to the hornets.\u00a0 Then someone made an interesting suggestion:\u00a0 &#8220;Why don&#8217;t you just leave them alone.\u00a0 They die in the winter anyway.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>It just didn&#8217;t seem right, leaving that dangerous nest there.\u00a0\u00a0 They don&#8217;t say, &#8220;Mad as a hornet&#8221; for nothing.\u00a0 But then I thought about the fact that we had been mowing grass right under that tree for half the summer before we even noticed the nest.\u00a0\u00a0 Maybe these hornets were not so &#8220;mad&#8221; after all.\u00a0\u00a0 No, the real mad one would have been me.\u00a0 Out there fighting a battle I didn&#8217;t have to fight,\u00a0because God had it taken care of.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Why should I worry about a hornet problem when God already had that battle won?\u00a0 He&#8217;s the one who created hornets as well as the seasons of Fall and Winter.\u00a0 Perhaps I should trust Him to take care of a few more of my battles.\u00a0 Why not?\u00a0 He had the outcome of this hornet thing figured out at the foundation of the world.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last night it got cold.\u00a0 This morning the hornets are gone, and I didn&#8217;t have to do a thing.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0I guess\u00a0sometimes the easiest battle you ever fight is the one you never fight.
