{"id":1668,"date":"2012-08-09T07:59:51","date_gmt":"2012-08-09T11:59:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/markspruill.com\/blog\/?p=1668"},"modified":"2012-08-09T08:10:24","modified_gmt":"2012-08-09T12:10:24","slug":"exploring-mars-and-finding-god","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/markspruill.com\/blog\/?p=1668","title":{"rendered":"Exploring Mars and Finding God"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I admit it.\u00a0 I am a science geek.\u00a0 So, it is no wonder that I have been watching the progress of NASA&#8217;s Mars Curiosity rover mission with great interest.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve been checking web sites, watching videos, reading news and comments, and studying the earliest little grainy pictures.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1676\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1676\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/markspruill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/mars_image.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1676\" title=\"mars_image\" src=\"http:\/\/markspruill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/mars_image-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/markspruill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/mars_image-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/markspruill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/mars_image.jpg 428w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1676\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A picture from Mars<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Just a couple of days ago, I read a comment that was posted under a video of the Mars rover landing.\u00a0 Most comments were very positive, praising NASA for a successful landing and an exciting mission.\u00a0\u00a0 However, one particular comment, negative in tone, caught my eye.\u00a0 It was complaining about all the money that was being spent on exploring Mars when &#8221; . . . all we need to know can already be found in the Bible.&#8221;\u00a0 I think the comment was both sad, and wrong.<\/p>\n<p>How could one book possibly contain all we need to know about an infinite God and His unfathomable expansive creation?\u00a0 Sure, the Bible contains what we need to know about God, salvation, and foundational truth.\u00a0 But it can&#8217;t contain everything we can know, because there is always more to know.\u00a0\u00a0I am grateful for a medical doctor who reads the Bible, but I hope his knowledge also includes some details about the human body that have been discovered since the Bible was written.\u00a0 On this hot summer day, I am thankful the chemists and physicists felt the need to understand atoms, molecules, and the principals of heat, cold, expansion and contraction.\u00a0 Without that knowledge, no one would have invented my air conditioner.\u00a0 The Bible is more than a book.\u00a0 It is the foundation of knowledge and truth about our Creator.\u00a0 However, the Bible itself says &#8220;The heavens declare the glory of God; And the firmament shows His handiwork\u00a0.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>There is so much more to know.\u00a0 So much more to be discovered.\u00a0 I say, let us explore.\u00a0 I am not afraid of what we may find.\u00a0 Those with a godless world view may use the discoveries to invent theories, trying to erase their subjection to an all powerful God.\u00a0 Where they are determined to find no god but themselves, they will see with clouded eyes, exactly what the are looking for, finding emptiness and meaninglessness in the process.<\/p>\n<p>Those of us who eagerly accept there is something greater than ourselves, will find evidence of His existence throughout the universe.\u00a0 Just as an artist endows a painting with a small bit of himself in every brush stroke, so our omnipotent creator has left His &#8220;DNA&#8221; throughout his creation.\u00a0 The wonders of creation reveal the mysteries of the creator.\u00a0 It&#8217;s out there.\u00a0 He&#8217;s out there.\u00a0 Let&#8217;s go exploring.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>The heavens declare the glory of God; And the firmament shows His handiwork.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>\u00a0\u00a0 &#8211; Psalm 19:1<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead . . .<\/em><br \/>\n<em>\u00a0 &#8211; Romans 1:20<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I admit it.\u00a0 I am a science geek.\u00a0 So, it is no wonder that I have been watching the progress of NASA&#8217;s Mars Curiosity rover mission with great interest.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve been checking web sites, watching videos, reading news and comments, and studying the earliest little grainy pictures.
