{"id":1581,"date":"2012-05-07T07:36:44","date_gmt":"2012-05-07T11:36:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/markspruill.com\/blog\/?p=1581"},"modified":"2012-06-16T11:21:24","modified_gmt":"2012-06-16T15:21:24","slug":"fleas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/markspruill.com\/blog\/?p=1581","title":{"rendered":"Fleas"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Fleas have invaded.\u00a0 Finding sanctuary on our dog, they have occasionally ventured from dog to carpet or furniture, and from there, to human.\u00a0 We are fighting a war.<\/p>\n<p>To win the war against fleas, one must fight on multiple fronts.\u00a0 Treat the dog &#8211; &#8220;their &#8220;homeland&#8221; &#8211; then treat all the other places they may hide in the home.\u00a0 Our next battle plan involves treating key dog resting spots outside the home.\u00a0 If necessary, the dog may be restricted from coming in the home for a while.\u00a0 Clearly, without the dog, fleas would not be a problem.\u00a0 Fleas like dogs.\u00a0 But then, so do people.<\/p>\n<p>My family has nearly always had dogs.\u00a0 From my earliest memories, dogs were a part of our life, and therefore, fleas were too.\u00a0 I remember one time when I was about 15 years old the fleas nearly got the best of me.\u00a0 We had been on a long vacation, leaving the house closed up, waiting for our return.\u00a0 Meanwhile, the fleas were multiplying and getting hungry.\u00a0 As we arrived home, inserted the key in the lock, and cracked open the door, the fleas were jumping for joy.\u00a0 The hungry masses were ready to pounce on the incoming smorgasbord.<\/p>\n<p>I remember coming into the house and walking back to my bedroom to drop my bags on the bed.\u00a0 As I stood there beside my bed, I felt a tingling sensation on my legs.\u00a0 I looked down.\u00a0 A black mass of little hungry fleas was swarming up my legs.\u00a0 A stampede of miniature blood suckers, rushing in for a meal.\u00a0 I ran, yelling for help.\u00a0 We treated me, the dogs and the house.\u00a0 We finally won the battle, but for days I felt like I had little things crawling all over me, even when there was nothing there.<\/p>\n<p>The Bible says the devil is like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour, but sometimes I think he and his minions attack more like fleas.\u00a0 I am moving through life well enough,\u00a0then some\u00a0little worry, bad habit, or pet sin comes along.\u00a0 I let it into my heart and mind.\u00a0 The fleas take up residence and make themselves at home.\u00a0\u00a0I notice one or two.\u00a0 A worry, a thought, a concern.\u00a0 I brush it\u00a0off; fail to deal with it.\u00a0 Next thing I know, the fleas have multiplied and\u00a0I am overwhelmed.\u00a0 I finally wise up and run screaming for help when there is only one thing left to do.\u00a0 Treat the whole house.\u00a0\u00a0 I don&#8217;t think there is such a thing as &#8220;just a few fleas.&#8221;\u00a0 At least, not for long.\u00a0 Either they are being eradicated as you deal with them decisively,\u00a0or they are\u00a0multiplying like crazy while you ignore them.\u00a0 I hate fleas.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Fleas have invaded.\u00a0 Finding sanctuary on our dog, they have occasionally ventured from dog to carpet or furniture, and from there, to human.\u00a0 We are fighting a war.
