{"id":1112,"date":"2011-03-23T18:02:26","date_gmt":"2011-03-23T22:02:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/markspruill.com\/blog\/?p=1112"},"modified":"2011-03-23T18:02:26","modified_gmt":"2011-03-23T22:02:26","slug":"deer-car-buzzard-or-bones","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/markspruill.com\/blog\/?p=1112","title":{"rendered":"Deer, Car, Buzzard or Bones?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sam and I came across some bones while on our Sunday walk.\u00a0 A skeleton of sorts.\u00a0 It was the backbone and rib cage of what I can only guess was a deer.\u00a0 It was kinda weird to see it laying there by the side of the road so we stood for a while, trying to figure out what it was.\u00a0 Before concluding that it had been a deer, we speculated on a few other options . . .\u00a0 an alligator perhaps?\u00a0 A very large dog?\u00a0 Maybe a dinosaur whose bones had\u00a0been washed up\u00a0by the rain? \u00a0OK, maybe not a dinosaur, but it was fun to speculate.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1118\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1118\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/markspruill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/bonesL.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1118\" title=\"bonesL\" src=\"http:\/\/markspruill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/bonesL-300x214.jpg\" alt=\"Deer Bones\" width=\"300\" height=\"214\" srcset=\"https:\/\/markspruill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/bonesL-300x214.jpg 300w, https:\/\/markspruill.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/bonesL.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1118\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Where did these bones come from?<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>I never thought about it much, but whatever it was, it most certainly is not that now.\u00a0 For it to be a deer, it must be alive.\u00a0 Otherwise, it is the bones of a deer, or the body of a deer, or the skin of a deer,\u00a0but not a deer.\u00a0 Now it&#8217;s just the dead bones of a deer and whatever happened, it must have happened pretty quickly.\u00a0\u00a0The last time Sam and I walked the gravel road, the bones were not there.\u00a0 We considered the possibilities and decided this must be the poor deer&#8217;s story:<\/p>\n<p>He was running along in the woods when he decided he was not happy where he was.\u00a0 He wanted to be someplace else, so he headed out across Buford Highway to get to the woods and the\u00a0gravel road\u00a0on the other side.\u00a0 Along came a car and ruined his plan, blindsiding him.\u00a0 Mortally injured, he stumbled on across the road and down to the woods and gravel\u00a0road along the other side.\u00a0 There, he finally fell in the ditch and died.\u00a0\u00a0 The buzzards must have promptly picked away at him, leaving just these bones laying by the dirt road.<\/p>\n<p>The story is familiar.\u00a0 It happens to people too.\u00a0 They go the wrong way at the wrong time and get blindsided.\u00a0 Then along come the &#8220;buzzards&#8221; to pick at them while they are down,\u00a0tearing away all that is left of them,\u00a0leaving nothing but dry bones and no life.\u00a0 Sometimes I am the deer.\u00a0 Sometimes I am the car.\u00a0 Sometimes, I am even the buzzard.\u00a0 And there are definitely days when I feel like the dry bones.\u00a0\u00a0 But God, He is the one that can give life even to dry bones, and thankfully, He does.<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;I will put My Spirit within you and you will come to life, and I will place you on your own land.
